I was 28, you'll be grand. Loads of almost thirties here.
As for drinking... I don't do it much. There's more of a food+drink culture here than just going out to get wasted and not even bother eating. Also plenty of waygooks here don't drink. |

No. You might some strange and personal questions regarding life and marriage.
Little caveat is some schools look for young teachers. And for some 27 might be a little to old. If your age is your problem balance it out with something that is an advantage (education, willingness, good looks, etc) |

I've never even sipped on a beer here. I have been here for many years and have tons of friends and events. If you don't drink, let it be known immediately, everyone should respect your personal choices. If not, seek out a new group of like minded individuals.
I have met several people who had never touched a drop of liquor prior to their arrival here, now they're very bad alcoholics. It's so sad, but it happens more often than not. Usually if people want to "fit in" they'll go along with the crowd but if you are self-confident, outgoing, and friendly minus the drinking, you shouldn't have a problem.
27, too old? gosh,no. If you were 57, that would be another story in and of it self. |

Interesting. Do you know any people who had never touched a drop of liquor prior to their arrival here and became normal well-adjusted social drinkers? If not it kind of suggest a lot of teetotalers abstain because they're afraid of what might happen. Or maybe it's safer to get into alcohol slowly when you're young rather than dive into it when you have enough money to buy as much as you want. |

To the OP yes, stay home.
I drink less since coming to Korea. because I dont like soju. Literally every westerner I met that drinks soju is here as an extension of their frat days and only drinks it because its cheap and theyre still living paycheck to paycheck. And because the beer here is so bad. I drank more when I lived in NYC and Tokyo. I was spoiled before I was introduced to beer in Korea that tastes like (C)ass. |

It's kind of a ritual at school/company dinners - that's the only time I've had it at all recently. |

| The only times I drink soju is when Im at a company dinner because I dont want to refuse it from bosses. Ive literally gone to Hongdae with foreigners and theyll stop at a gs25 before we hit a club so they can chug a kettle of soju because theyre too cheap to buy drinks in the club. Actually this happens a lot. Soju has a strong correlation with people who cant manage their money properly. |

You've never heard of "pre-gaming it" It shows that they do have a sense of responsibility actually. If you drink at home or like them buy that cheap bottle of soju to get a little tipsy before hand, it saves you on those over priced drinks in the club.
To the OP, I came here just before my 27th birthday and had no problem. I've met plenty of people my age here. My age now is hitting me. There's a 21 year old gyopo that works at my school now and I don't have a thing in common with him. What I mean is, this 21 year old seems like such a kid to me now. He never even had a taste of beer until he came to Korea. |
