If someone comes to Korea to work as a teacher.

Is it possible to bring the required documents and apply from within the country?

Has anyone done this before?

The teacher in question would be obtaining her first E2 visa.

Thanks in advance.

It was possible and easy to do, then they made a rule you needed to get an interview if it was your first time.

Now I understand it is no longer needed and you can, however it isn't easy to do.

She would need to basically have all the documents in hand because of the time it takes to get the documents.

From there she would need to leave Korea and get the visa processed and then enter Korea. Will the school pay for this or the teacher? That's negotiable and between the teacher and the school to sort out.

I suggest talking to recruiters when you arrive in Korea. If you talk to them now, they will just say stay until you sign a contract. I assume this person wants to visit schools first which is a wise move.

The situation is that she has signed a contract and has all the visa documents ready.

But the director wants her to arrive ASAP because of the school opening soon.

So I am investigating this as a way to get her here ASAP. (I've been acting as the ill informed recruiter)

With regards to leaving the country while the visa is processed... would that just be a quick visa hop to japan or the like?

There have been people who arrived here without a visa and later went to a Korean Embassy in Japan to get the E2. But the thing is that the teachers end up working at a school before they have an E2 which is illegal. The chances of getting caught are slim but...

Can she arrive, find a job, submit the documents for a visa confirmation number, get the VCN, fly to Japan to get the E2 then return to Korea and start work = yes.

Chances are that she would NOT be paid for her flight to Korea (since the employer will also have to pay for the visa run). If the employer is requesting that she come as a tourist then do a visa run later then be careful (it is illegal to work on a tourist stamp, even if they have submitted the documents for the visa process). Make sure the employer is willing to pay for the ticket AND the cost of the visa run (airfare and hotel since an overnight stay ON a school day will be required)).

Can she change her status from tourist to E2 without leaving Korea on a visa run = no.
