I have resigned from my current job EPIK job at the BMOE after 2 years and 3 months after being offered a much better job at a University in Busan. I've given 30 days notice and have started the process to change jobs but I'm beginning to panic.
I knew before going down this road that EPIK doesn't give release letters to people breaking contract. I figured I could do what my friend in the exact same situation (same school) did last year which is leave Korea and hand in her ARC. Come back and apply for a whole new visa.
Since then I've heard from the immigration office helpline that I cannot get a new visa until my current visa has expired. I also found this link tompatz shared that says this.
http://travel.gc.ca/travelling/publications/teaching-english-in-korea#visa
"If you resign to take up a new job without a letter of release from your previous employer, you must leave the country within 14 days of your resignation. A new work permit will not be issued until the expiration of your previous contract. However, after leaving the country, you can return to Korea as a tourist while awaiting the expiry of your old contract, but you are not allowed to work in the interim."
Since my new job begins on March 2nd and my old contract won't expire until November I really need some advice.
I was also hoping to do something like switch to D10 and back to E2 which the man at immigration told me yesterday I could do, but the woman on the helpline said today I cannot (with a LOR).
PLEASE someone give me some advice on what to do. Thank you in advance. |
