Hello everyone,
I am a first time 22 year old female, English teacher hoping if all works out well to go over to Korea to teach English at the end of February. I have had teaching experience before in a language other then English, Hebrew, I have taken my 120 hours TEFL course, and have been working on volunteering to help people with conversational English. I have recently finished my BA in anthropology and am really excited to travel for work again. So that's a bit of background about me.
My current predicament is that I have two contracts that have been offered and partially offered.
The first is with EPIK. I have sent in all my documents, including the signed Seoul contract, and everything has been OKed. The pay is 2-2.1 m won, and I don't know if I will even be in Seoul, where I will be is a wild card. I have not yet received my notice of appointment and am anxious about it.
The second is with the Wonderland school in Daegu. It is Monday to Friday 2.1-2.2 m won, during the day, have less vacation days and sick days but housing is 10 min away walking, I know where I will be and there are smaller classes (and there is the fact that I have the whole contract right now and if I sign it it's a for sure). The orientation is 2 days and its a private English school. I have been trying to find reviews on this exact location, I have found reviews on wonderland that are a mixed bag, has any got any advice?
So I am at a point of deciding whether to take the contract that is set and ready for me, or wait for EPIK. I am wondering has anyone been through this with EPIK, is it worth the wait? Has anyone worked with wonderland before, any reviews or advice? Please get back to me as soon as you can.
Thank-you,
Chaya |

Wait for EPIK and look for other jobs in the meantime. Don't work at Wonderland. Searching for this topic will make it clear why you shouldn't do so. |

Wait for EPIK or be sorry that you didn't.

Hi, thank-you all for the advice so far. If you could post the link to the wonderland stuff you are talking about that would be great.
If you know anything specific about the Daegu, Dalseo gu Igok dong (I think that is enough to narrow it down hopefully) wonderland school that is even better, I want the hard brutal truth, whether it be good or bad before I sign my name anywhere.
On the topic of EPIK my concern is the time it is taking to get the notice of appointment, as I asked before has anyone been through this? (waiting so long), is this just something in general to expect with EPIK? If you have had a similar situation can you please let me know as much as you can about how you handled it.
Thank-you again, I appreciate all the information i can get, the more the better.

Is Wonderland still around? What about LCI Kids Club? |

Yes, the slave labor outfits are all still around:
Wonderland,
CDI
Kids Club
SLP
OP: read the contract with something less than rose colored glasses and you will understand why friends don't let friends work at Wonderland.
Long delays are common with EPIK issuing NOAs. They usually come out about 30 days before you are due to be in Korea for your orientation (so end of Jan or Early Feb).
They pay enough for a full fare ticket so they aren't worried about your booking months in advance to save a few won and you won't lose anything on the ticket.

Amazing...after all these years, and what they've done...these outfits still exist. |

Always lots of "green-as-grass" newbies with rose colored glasses willing to sign on for the chance to "get abroad". The bad stuff only happens to the "other guy". It can't happen to me.

And so it goes. Show must go on.
All we can do then is advise newbies. |

If you search google for "wonderland korea blacklist" and you'll find plenty of links regarding Wonderland. |
