For denizens of the Jukjeon/Suji area, Ankara Picnic has opened a kebab stand in the basement of Jukjeon (Gyeonggi) Shinsegae Dept. Store. Same taste as the Itaewon place--

The Itaewon one is the best kebab in Korea. The guys that work there are super chill as well. There's one on the street in fron of Sookmyung Women's University, but they can't find a manager, thus it sits unopened.

I went to the one near Sookmyung in June. It's closed now?

The one in front of Sukmyeong has been open for at least 2 years. Did the manager, a Korean man, leave and shut down the place?

It's been dead for a few months now. I've been past there a few times lately and it's still just sitting there in stasis.

I've been to the one at Sinsegae. It's good.

But what's the connection between kebabs and ice cream?

Ha--the ice cream. I have no idea. They have that meter-long scoop that they proffer to passersby....

Anyhoo, Shinsegae Jukjeon is using some other recipe--it's definitely not what I used to get in Itaewon--heavy on the cole slaw. Anyone able to compare the two? I haven't been to the Itaewon branch in a long while.

It's always good, no matter how long we wait.

Technically, Ankara Picnic, at least not the one in Itaewon, doesn't sell kebab.
They sell Doner. That's what they call those sandwiches in Turkish and in Germany and most places in Ottawa and other places. Awesome food.
I had a couple of sandwiches a couple of weeks ago and will have some more next week.

Are they the best for the price?

Well, the other places are good, but I like Ankara's taste the best, but I haven't tried every place around. I've stuck with Ankara for years. It's my favorite. I first ate the owner's food back in 2006.

I'm a loyal fan of Sultan Kebab but Ankara Picnic is good, too.
