I'm a blonde, athletic built American female with a BA in Sociology.
My boyfriend is an attractive, brunette, athletic male also with a BS in Political Science.
We are both in our early 20's and NOT looking for couples positions.
How important are these things in finding a job?
Secondly- I am having a friend take pictures for my application pretty soon. Any tips for how to go about these? Just basic head and full body shots or pictures with kids, etc? This might be silly, but I do wear glasses for reading, should I wear them in the pic? Thanks. |
Chances of employment are about 100%.
Photo for the resume should be properly dressed, passport style (as is common practice throughout Asia).
Adding photos of you working with kids (playground, classroom, etc) as an addition wouldn't hurt IF you have or claim to have experience working with kids or like working with kids (I like working with kids - here is a few photos of me playing in the local playground...). Skip them otherwise.
With your job applications include:
resume (with passport photo attached)
cover letter
scan of your degree with apostille
scan of your CBC with apostille
passport information page.
You are good to go.
Don't send hard copies of anything until you have the contract in hand and are ready to sign the dotted line.

Fabulous news, thanks. Do these odds apply for my boyfriend too? Objectively speaking, do these things makes us more desirable employees? I mean, can we afford to be picky and hold out for exactly what we want? |

You are as desirable as the next set of "new blood youngsters", fresh out of college, with stars in their eyes and ready to be exploited.
There are literally thousands of new positions for your type of applicant every spring in almost every hagwon in the country.
Being picky is another matter. Jobs with decent employers are highly in demand and harder to find. Usually they are found by word of mouth and through friends and friends of friends.
Additionally, you have nothing to offer other than being new blood who meet the visa requirements. Entry level is where you will start.
Read and understand the contracts before you sign them.
Get clarification on anything that you are not sure about.
(eg: 30 classes or 30 class hours? 30 classes means 30 classes. 30 class hours can mean anything from 30 classes of 50 minutes up to 45 classes of 40 minutes. (300 minutes = 5 hours more class time to prep, teach and clean up after).
Other sticking points are often things like:
Vacation - when (who picks the days), how many days (10 days, 10 working days, 10 consecutive days), etc.
payday: when (at the end of your work month, and the end of a calendar month, how long a holdback to they keep (paid after 40 days)
Medical: NHIC or something else (illegal but common practice in hagwons)
Pension: NPS or you just get cheated?
airfare: when is repayment no longer required
recruiters fees: NEVER agree to repay those
You get the picture.

Thanks, will definitely keep those things in mind and when I get to that point I'll post a contract for review by the fine people at Dave's ESL Cafe to bestow their words of wisdom upon me |
