Excerpt from a recent contract I received:

1. Schedule
The number of regular working hours will be 120 teaching hours per month. Class preparation time is not included in the above 120 teaching hours. Class preparation will include creating teaching materials such as flashcards, crafts, and other projects.
The principal, Academic directors and Head Teacher will have the authority to require the Employee to teach any additional classes (hereafter called overtime) and to perform classroom duties in excess of 120 hours per month The Employee is required to substitute teach in the absense of another employee. This will not be classed as overtime.
It is mandatory for teachers to attend regular staff meetings, trainings and orientations and workshops at the employer's discretion in which this will not be included in the 120 hours of teaching or classed as overtime.
----------------------------------------

Notice the rate of overtime has not even been mentioned at all.

Why not just make a contract with any number of hours, and state anything outside it is "not overtime"

Ridiculous, I was looking forward to hearing from that that school, it was in a nice area too. Sad

Perhaps they can amend the contract to reflect what you'd like to see written? Or is it a "their way or the highway" type situation?
