hi
I'm considering this position and the company is Global Edu..it's an after school program but nothing comes up when I look.
Has anyone heard of them or worked for them? |

One of the longest running after-school program providers in Korea.
You get the worst of both worlds. Worst aspects of a public school job combined with the worst practices of a hagwon.
Read the contract VERY carefully. Most of the worst of it will be in there.

Nothing particularly bad or illegal.... but the fine print sucks...
issues that often come up are things like:
-having 2 bosses - school and company (often with conflicting requirements or instructions).
-holidays and camps - no communication between school, employer and you but YOUR self initiative ("That isn't what we wanted!") will be punished rather than rewarded.
-2 weeks holiday when everyone else in the school is taking 4-6 weeks.
-visa issues... they are your employer but the school is your sponsor...
-there can and have been pay issues - delays in getting paid. Usually not long enough to file a formal complaint with the labor board.
-early termination of employment through the company losing its contract with the school for any number of reasons not related to you.

Yes..those are the pitfalls with all after school programs, except for the pay issues. I've been working in an after school and, yes you do have 2 bosses and your job is not as secure as it is with a public school. But, I only work for 4.5 hours each day and have small classes which I can teach freely.
But, I'm just wondering if you worked for this company or maybe know someone that did? I never had any problems with my pay and would like to know about this if you know any more about this co?

I was involved as an agent at the help center assisting clients filing claims and complaints against them in Incheon and Suwon.
If you are experience in Korea then there shouldn't be any surprises other than what you read in the contract.

ohhh, so you called this one right.
It was so confusing even arranging an interview with them. I sent my resume on friday evening and he phoned me that night and told me I had to interview only on saturday morning and to call his assistant when I arrived. Then his assistant told me she was waiting for me when I called her way before the agreed upon time. And so on..
So, this company might have more than the usual communication issues.
That really is a bad sign if there is difficulty even arranging an interview.
I can't imagine how they handle real things. |
