Having recently agreed a contract with a school and recruiter for a teaching position, and then sending all my relevant documents over to Korea to sort the visa out; I have been informed that because the documents weren't received early enough and the visa process would take too long, the school have decided to take on someone else.
This leaves me in a position without a job or offer, and with my documents in the hands of a recruiter in Korea. The recruiter says they are trying to find me another position ASAP and they're very apologetic etc. but I still feel a bit hard done by.
They say they will hold on to my documents for now. I feel it would be a bit counterproductive to ask for my documents back to this country, and then to send them off again (either to the same recruiter or a different one). So basically my question is whether you think it's likely that if I was offered another contract by another recruiter/school, that the original recruiter would send my documents over to another school. I guess it's not really in their interest to do so?
I dunno, I'm basically looking for any help or advice in this situation as I feel a bit in limbo at the moment and not quite sure what to do.
Cheers. |

You can stay with them and hope they have or can sell you to another school. It is in their best interests to do so.
You can request your hard copies back and start again with a bunch of new recruiters. I assume you have scans of the documents that you can use to begin applying for more jobs.
E-mail your cover letter, resume, and scans of your passport, degree and CBC to as many recruiters as you can find that have jobs you are interested in.
While you are waiting... order a new set of documents as well (you never know when you may need them).
There is no magic answer.

Dude that sucks! This kind of carry on is always happening in Korea because so many Koreans in the work force lack forward thinking, and don't consider anyone else but themselves. Yet you don't need to be reminded how ripped off you have been...
If your recruiter has your docs and you still want to get to Korea ASAP then I would suggest letting them hold onto them until they can find you a new position. Contact other recruiters and try find work through them also. Have your docs sent from the first recruiter to the other if they find you a job.
In saying that, since the recruiter kinda screwed up I am sure they will make you priority and do all they can to find you another position.
Good luck~ |
