|
|
Sorry if this has been done to death. I did a search and read a lot of information regarding the D-10 visa. There seems to be a lot of different experiences from people who have gotten one or asked about one.
If anyone could clear this up or if anyone has gotten a D10 recently that can answer my questions, I'd be grateful.
It seems like some conflicting information regarding how long it takes to get a D-10 visa once you apply for it. Some have said they have waited three weeks while others got the paper on the same day. Is it fair to say that it really does depend on the immigration official and there is no cut and dry answer to this question?
Also, can I leave the country while waiting for the D10 if my ARC has not expired and can I receive the D10 at an address in Canada?
The D-10 is valid for six months, so within the six months I have to have another job and can easily switch to an E-2, correct? What is the process?
Can I collect my pension at the end of my contract? I read conflicting information on past threads in regards to this question. Any concrete evidence of people who have collected pension money?
Any and all responses to clear up the D10 mystery would be greatly appreciated.

Well in my process of writing the complete instructions about D-10, this is what I know and think.

Like you said it is not cut and dry? One friend got it added to his ARC with the new printer and some marker too on the back. Done on the spot. While others here had theirs taken for time. I think if the card is older the official will make a new one, which means a wait. Get it delivered.

Yes and no. Yes you can leave the country if you do not get the ARC back. You just have to gather some paperwork like certificate of alien registration. Plus get some copies/scan of your ARC before hand. Never mind the old date of ARC expiration. If you get the D-10, you have 6 more months. No on getting the ARC delivered to Canada. That would just confuse the immi official, which is nevera good think. Keep it simple. Plus Canada delivery will really risk getting the card lost. Also NO on travelling to long. Gone more then 90 days and you risk having to submit all new paperwork for the E2 transfer.

It is the same as a E2 school transfer. Please check the board some more and also check the hikorea.go.kr website.

No you can not get your pension. Usually to get the pension refund you have to cancel your visa. You don't want to do that as that would defeat the purpose of getting the D-10 like avoid paperwork or visa trips.

Different scenarios by different people on different visas. Things are never 1 + 1 = 2 when it comes to government officials. Sorry you will have to wait another year. If you really need it just go home and get new papers. Getting new papers back home in Canada is usually easier and quicker. Depending on how long you are back home for that is and how much of the pension you mind spending to get papers sorted. |

Thanks for the information. It gives me something to think about. I wanted to go home for awhile and didn't want the hassle of getting all new paperwork. I think this is a good bridge to getting another job and also getting a little break.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has or has had this visa and how the transition process went upon getting another job in Korea within the six months. |

I've given my two cents worth on most D10 threads here. But I'm no expert. All the information you need is here on Daves somewhere. The only thing that I'm not sure about is in regard to leaving Korea before you actually have your D10. The Immigration office and the helpline told me that I could not leave Korea before I received my ammended ARC with D10 addition. Some people have got a certificate of alien registration and left the country before getting their ARC back. The processing time was supposed to be 3 weeks but in fact I got the D10 on the day I applied for it. My flights home were booked for 3 weeks later so I had a rather leisurely time before going home.
I was out of the country for over 3 months so when I returned to Korea with a new contract, I had to give immigration a new Criminal Records Check as the above poster has said. The change back to E2 is easy and even easier if you have not left for more than the 90 days. The D10 certainly makes life easier than having to apply for a new E2. You are also in a position to fly back to Korea quickly for any ASAP job openings. One problem may be the requirement of documents by the local Board of Education(even for hagwons). I had copies of all my documents and that was good enough. They may also want a new health check and possibly a Korean Police Check but they're no biggies. |
