I've lived in Korea for 5 years now and transferred between hagwon jobs a number of times now.

Just started at a new hagwon and I heard something totally new (well, it's new to me): They're telling me that I need some new documentation to be considered a "qualified teacher" in the eyes of the Ministry of Education. I need some sort of physical (separate from the one for immigration) as well as certified copies of my university diploma and my criminal records check. They've determined that the immigration office can issue the necessary certified copies of my diploma and CRC but I still have to go to a hospital for the other thing.

Anybody else going through this? Again, this is NOT the immigration physical. It's something separate for the Ministry of Education.

This is the 3rd time I've done a visa transfer but the 1st time I've been asked for these items.

Yes, it is for the MOE and it is old news. I am sort of surprised that you didn't need to get it done for your last year since the requirements came in to force in the spring of 2011.

Yeah. I worked at a really shady hagwon. They did nothing "by the book" so it doesn't surprise me that they missed it.

Anyway, all's well that ends well.
