|
|
Had this baby for for 4 years and its causing me problems lately(original style 30gb one).
It has started to freeze on me quite a bit and now it won't even turn on.Riding the subways of Seoul or cycling is torture without it.Can't really afford a new one at the minute either.
Anyone ever get a ipod fixed in Seoul? Suppose I could try the apple store in Myeongdong?
Cheers for any responses |

You're going to spend more fixing it than it's worth. Bite the bullet and buy a new one or buy a used one off Craigslist. |

Not sure if we're in the same boat but took my ipod touch to the UBase service center at A# store in COEX with a jiggered headphone socket. Said they couldnt fix it (not allowed to open her up and do the surgery) but would sell me a same spec reconditioned model for about half of current retail. |

That well-known replacement policy by Apple is just the same in South Korea, hence your chance getting yours 'fixed' at any official Apple store is slim. Yet, there are some 'unofficial' shops that fix Apple devices in Seoul, especially around Yongsan.
Two of the most famous repair shops are iPrimo and iNamdo. The latter is in ETLand in Yongsan, while the former has its flagship office near Sin-Yongsan stn. and a few branches in Gangnam, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, etc. |

I took my iPod Touch to the Apple store in MyeongDong. On the top floor they have a service centre.
I bought it over a year ago and they said they would fix it for free. Although I have no idea at all about my guarantee (I bought it in Yongsan and not from an authorised store) but they told me it would take a week and that they'd replace it for me.
Its pretty awesome. But maybe mine is under guarantee? You could give it a shot though. |

If the Korean Apple store is anything like the ones in the states, unless the iPod is still under warranty (which, judging from the OP, it's not), they're not going to do anything for you for free.
That being said, when I brought mine in to the Boston store out of warranty, they offered to sell me a new one with a discount if I traded in my old one (I don't remember how much, I think it was only ~10-15%). The guy also handed me a business card for some company in the area (strange, I know) that fixed iPods and told me to give that a shot.
It wouldn't hurt to stop by the Apple store if it's convenient and see what they say, you never know. |

My place got flooded this Chusok, and my iPod Touch got wet. Think these iPod repair stores can do the trick? Or is water damage irreparable? |

Don't take it to apple. You can colour the inside of the audio jack input with bllack pen to hide the water damage indicator. check google for how to do this.
If it's in warranty they'll fix it if the water damage indicator isn't visible. |

I want to let you know that I took my iPod today to the iPhone Korea Nowon Service Center in Nowon, Seoul. The owner's name is Jae-Hyun Kim and he services iPhones, iPods, and iPads. He speaks perfect English and is a really friendly guy. On top of that, to get the battery replaced only cost me 50,000 won. I had a friend call the a# store in the Coex Mall and she got back to me that they were going to charge 280,000 won... No comparison!
Check out the website (http://applerepair.co.kr/en/index.html) and consider going there if Nowon isn't too far out of the way for you. I don't think you'll be disappointed. |
