Im asking this because the type of job I have at home only gives me 4 chances a year to leave (unlike your usual 3 weeks notice type of job) which is late April and the next chance is late July. Therefor I don't want to quit in April then find out It was a big mistake and Im jobless at home.
So here it is:
Im a white male from New Zealand. My age is currently 20 and will be 21 in June. I look like a normal sane person and have a great personality.
I have 1 years teaching experience at a music academy where i am a music teacher specializing in instrument studies and theory classes. My students ages range from 5 to 35. I teach 1 on 1 classes as well as group lessons. As part of the job I have to deal with classroom behavior as well as lesson planning e.t.c.
I will have all my documents back mid April (still waiting to receive degree cert).
It seems like im going to have to quit before i have a job offer which is fine as long as it looks good for me to get work the following month or June at the latest.
Thanks for reading this and hope you have a great day

It may be difficult to find a job starting in late April / early May right now without having all of your documents in hand. This is because it takes a few weeks if not a month to process your E2 visa. Many schools / recruiters might pass on you for a candidate who is ready to go ASAP. If you wait until you have all your documents, then a late July / early August start date would be much more feasible. However, if you can find a school who will accept you given your status, then why not. |

New Zealand passport = unknown (citizen = check)
Degree (bachelor of .........) waiting for it.
CBC with apostille = unknown.
Teaching experience = 1 year in a hagwon type environment.
Get your ducks lined up (documents prepared and ready).
Take a 100 hour TEFL course with at least 20 hours of classroom time.
THEN - Give your 3 months notice and get a job as an EFL teacher.
PS's will start recruiting in late March for August starts.
Hagwons hire year round.

Sorry i should have mentioned.. I will be taking a Hagwon job. Also i really don't want to do a TEFL course. I thought my teaching experience would be a good substitute?
I have my passport. Literally just waiting for my degree so i can get my CBC and degree apostilled. |

TEFL is NEEDED for a public school job effective Fall/13.
TEFL is NOT needed for a hagwon job (but you will be competing with everyone else who also didn't get a TEFL).
Your classroom experience as an "academy music teacher" won't really make any difference in your job search.
(entry level jobs require a degree because it is a visa requirement and before it was a visa requirement hagwons would take anyone who could speak English).

If I quit my job in late april my situation will allow me the luxury of not having to pay any bills or living costs what so ever so I guess the question is: What is the chance or rough % that I will get hired at a Hagwon before the end of July? If it didnt happen then i might as well have continued working till end of July and make some extra money.
Once again thanks for your time. |

How high is up?
Unless:
a) you are as ugly as Quasimodo or
b) your resume/cover letter are full of spelling and grammar errors or
c) your facebook is full of photos of you doing stupid stuff in a drunken stupor (you might want to actually google yourself)
your chances of finding a job in Korea are pretty good.
Your chances of finding a job in Asia (with the same SAVINGS potential - $1100nz/month) within 90 days of actually having your documents in your hand and ready to go are ~100%.

Just to add to this thread, I was offered 2 jobs within 24hrs of each other on Tuesday/Wednesday and don't have a tesol/tefl cert. I also don't have all my docs in order as of yet as I am also waiting on my degree to arrive in the next few days. I really don't think it will be that difficult to get work, just keep watching for positions being posted for late April and May as I see a few starting to come through now that February is over with |
