Just brainstorming here...
I see couples working rather cushy jobs all the time, so I'm curious how you got to this point. The only jobs I see that outwardly hire couples are usually evening-shift hagwons. I'm particularly interested in what unmarried couples have done. I'm also curious about people's work schedules. It seems like it would be a challenge to find two different jobs with the same schedule in the same area.

Again, I'm just trying to pick your brains, so I have a better idea of what does and doesn't work. Thanks!

Bump.

I hope this isn't one of those newbie questions where people think "I figured it out on my own, so you should too." Our contract ends two weeks after public schools hire in August, so we'll need to do something unconventional if we want to get out of the evening hagwon scene. I don't think we could stand another vacationless year of working til 9-10pm.

I appreciate your input.

In our second year we broke up because we couldn't stand working with each other.

This is something to consider. I've thought about just getting a job myself somewhere desirable, moving there with my girlfriend, and then helping her find work once we're there (since she's a woman and apparently more desirable). I just wonder if anyone else has tried this, and what success or failures they've had.

Came over together, unmarried, together 3 years. Got hired by EPIK and placed at schools within a ten minute walk of each other Very Happy Moderately cushy. Both schools happened to be nice, co-teachers generally chill, so we stayed on another year. (This year.) Things are getting harder (favorite coteachers leaving, etc.) but still likely moderately cushy.

Getting married this summer. Very Happy

If you're going through EPIK the trick is to get all your documents in as early as humanly possible. (We were literally applicants #1 and #2 in our area, which is what I credit with us getting nice placements close together.)
