This is just my opinion so you can all absolutely take it or leave it!!!!

But it seems so me the information on this forum re the requirements for the visa regs is very confusing, especially for new people here.

I would really appreciate a new sticky which is easier to use and with just the full and complete information of how to get a criminal record check, apostille etc without the whining and dissing of Koreans that accompanies the original thread.

My mate has really been screwed by this whole thing now, partly because the whole thing was implemented wrongly, but dareisay also because it's very very difficult to glean the correct information from on here and from the foreigner community in general because of all the scaremongering and hyperbole.

angry and upset in Busan

thanks

Yes, it's an embarrassing spelling mistake. But your reply isn't what I was looking for at all.

Why? Did immigration reject his application?

Methinks you are being a little too unmannered to get a response here. Ask a recruiter.

IF there WAS a lot of accurate information and consistency then there would be a sticky

BUT

since the rules, requirements and implementation vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and consulate to consulate even from clerk to clerk at the immigration office, your request is at best wishful thinking.

There are NO hard, fast rules right now. The whole thing is in limbo and confusing to those of us who were most familiar and even less clear to the rest ....

Patience or lots of shoe leather (for the running around you will have to do) are the only answers.

As far as I can guage, this is the state of play right now:

*Criminal record check: people of all nationalities, including E2 and C4 visas, now have to provide a criminal record check. It does not have to be national, but state or regional, as acquiring a national check takes to long for US citizens and is impossible for British citizens.
This check needs to be apostillized. Which can be done by mail.

*medical check: one needs to have a medical check including HIV test. If applying from abroad this must be done before entry into korea. if in korea, can be done at one of the local hospitals.

*Degree: must provide either the original, or notarised copies.

*Transcripts: must provide transcript copies in envelopes with your university stamp over the seal.

*consulate interview: must be undertaken by new E2 applicants in their home country

Thats it.

But it does not apply to people who have already had a previous E2, until March 15th (to allow Korean public schools to fill their quotas for the new term)... thereafter everyone must do all of the above.

From what i understand, the medical checks can be done in Korea even if you are not currently living there. My recruiter told me to cancel my appointment with the hospital because the checks were to be done in Korea rather than in the applicant's home country. These checks must be done within 90 days of arriving in Korea.

Yep. It's a social experiment that's going to BLOW UP in Korea's collective face within months.
