Hi everyone,
I'm interested in applying to teach English in Korea around September and was curious as to when applications open for the Fall term with EPIK. I read on their webpage that applications are due April~June but I feel that's a bit late. Can anyone confirm this?
Also I've been reading a lot about requiring TESOL 100+ hours with 20+ being in-class for EPIK. I currently only have a BHSc (Bachelor of Health Sciences), double major in Psychology and Health Sciences, would you recommend that I take a TESOL/TEFL Certification Course before applying for EPIK? I was hoping to get a position in Incheon. Would it be difficult to get a job with EPIK without the certificate?
Thank you in advance. |

I wonder why we get so many of these "advice" posts.
Why don't you ask recruiters? A teacher is just 1 person. They may or may not have needed those qualifications for 1 job.
However, if you ask recruiters, they recruit for many teachers. They would know what the requirements are because in order to get paid, they would have to make sure you were qualified to get the job and the paperwork processed? |

Dates are correct and the recruitment period is April - June with applicants arriving in Korea in August.
EPIK "what's new bulletin #234" dated 2012-8-1 states that a 100 hour TEFL course with a minimum of 20 hours of in-class study as part of the course is, as of the fall 2013 intake, a REQUIREMENT for consideration for all NEW TEACHERS - unless you have:
a) more than 1 year of verifiable, full time, classroom/teaching experience.
b) degree in education, English or linguistics
c) graduate level qualifications
IF you don't have <a>, <b> or <c> or a TEFL cert then don't count on being a newbie with EPIK in the fall of 2013.

Incheon is a little different. I would contact Allistar from Korean Horizons or educon. They hire for Incheon directly I believe. |
