|
|
When evaluating my EPIK application, will they look at my GPA from my MA in TESOL more than my general BA? I got a pretty low GPA in my BA and a high GPA in my MA.
I've heard that EPIK has now introduced a GPA requirement. Those applicants with a too low GPA (less than 2.5) will not be considered. I wonder if that means the BA or MA GPA (???)

| If you had a 2.5 in a graduate program you would never had been able to graduate. Thus, my guess is it is for the BA. Besides, who does not have high grades in an MATESOL??????????? |

An average at one university is not the same as another. Furthermore, averages also vary from program to program. Getting 90%+ in English is a cakewalk compared to a 90%+ in Linguistics, yet both are relevant for an MA TESOL. |

| And how do they assess GPA for those from a UK educational background? I basically got above 70% average for my MA and a 2:1 with BA (Hons). So what does that get me? |

Roughly
British Class American GPA Secured Marks Level
First 3.68-4.00 70+
Upper Second 3.33-3.67 60-69
Lower Second 2.70-3.32 50-59
Third 2.30-2.69 45-49
Ordinary Pass 2.00-2.29 40-45
but there can be differences in how institutions work things out. |

| LOL. PS programs are so flooded with applicants that they are using every means possible to weed out the undesirables now. 3.5 GPA in underwater basket weaving is better than 2.0 in TESOL. |

Exactly. It's too bad for the applicants who graduated from tough schools. I can pretty much guarantee that the Koreans will neither care about nor do any research into which schools or countries tend to give students lower GPAs. |

+1
At my university, 80%+ averages are very uncommon for more fields. Also, the way that GPA is calculated varies greatly from school to school and program to program. A 2.5GPA in Canada is not the same as a 2.5GPA in the UK.
If anything, the main deciding factors should be job-related experience, formal TESL training/accreditation, and personality. |

Methinks the recruiters are getting a lot more requests than they can manually weed through. By adding an 100hr TESOL barrier, they effectively cut out a lot of people. |

It's incredible how many rumors in the overseas EFL profession there are. I saw somebody's post about this new GPA requirements and went beserk. Now it looks like it is untrue.
Out of 10 facts you read in this forum, how many are true facts?

Depends on who is spitting them out.
IF the website used as a reference ends in .go.kr then you at least know that the fudge factor is governmental and not from some blogger or recruiter with their own hidden agenda.

So if it's true, you can expect no checking of details regarding your GPA.
If it's not true, you can expect no checking of details regarding our GPA. |

Not all GPA's are the same. 2.5 at my University was a B- which is a good grade.
That is not factored in. GPA's differ |
