Public school teachers,
I'm finishing my first year in Korea. Taught this year at a hogwan. Looking at maybe going public for my second year. Two questions that I don't see the answer to in the stickies:
1) I know public schools usually only have 1 foreign teacher per school. Would EPIK, GEPIK, JEPIK, etc. work with a couple and try to place them in two nearby schools?
2) Would EPIK, GEPIK, JEPIK, etc. be able to provide any type of couple apartment if it were able to place us in nearby schools or would we just have to deal with two single apartments?
I'm sure someone here has navigated this issue before. Thanks. |

Generally Yes is the answer to both your questions. Any of the couples I know in a "country side area, usually have an awesome apartment. Usually they will place you nearby and you will share housing.
What JEPIK? |

Do some searching.
I found 2 offers with a fraction of search muscle.

This is like shopping for apples or tomatoes. You need to check each one. There is no "McDonald's" order system to get a couple arrangement.
It might be best to think of it as 2 individual job offers and then just get one school to pay a housing allowance instead of providing housing. Problem solved.

Are you married? If yes then 'yes' to 1 and maybe to 2.....
It totally depends on the area/MOE you work at/if the school already has a housing agreement signed for another 1-2 years.....If the school can be BOTHERED to do some paperwork to change the situation.....
NOTE - never sublet an apartment, it is illegal under your contract and will prob get you fired.....
If you are not married it's a crap shoot. It doesnt matter what anyone at EPIK says to you.
I've known of instances where people were promised to be in the same city 'close by' - they end up being over 1 hr bus drive away - WHY?
Because the local edu officer didn't want them living in 'sin' - FACT! |
