I had a look around but couldn't get the answers i wanted. Is it an easy process? Are visa runs still in full flight?

A visitor visa doesn't get turned into an E2 Visa particularly. You get hired by a school in Korea. They send their documents to immigration, you send your documents to immigration and if immigration likes you they put an E2 Visa in your passport. It doesn't matter where you are.

However you cannot get the E2 Visa stamped unless you are entering Korea. That means if you are presently in Korea you have to leave Korea. When you leave Korea, you are no longer in Korea on any type of visa. After that when you re-enter Korea, you re-enter on the E2 Visa in your passport, and immigration stamps it.

Once you have your visa confirmation number you can do a visa run to Japan. You can drop your passport off at the consulate and pick it up the next day.

Okay cool thanks. With all the bad hagwon jobs out there i think it would be better to fly in and get a job instead of going in blindly.

Which leads me to another question. When buying a plane ticket over you also need a return ticket to somewhere else so they let you in. Wheres the best place to buy a ticket to(that i wouldn't even be using) + it needs to be a place that doesnt require you to have another leaving ticket.

Is this how you would do it?

You don't need a return ticket if you are being hired. I have never had problems with single tickets. Perhaps on a tourist visa they want that, but you would be working and the school would be paying for it, not you.

With that said, make the school deal with the flight issues. If you already are in Korea, why fork out more money? You paid the bulk, all they need to do is pay for a visa run which is much cheaper.

The point of going to korea first is so that i can find a descent job and have a little holiday first instead of signing a contract in my home country and going over.

Make sure you get all your required documents before entering Korea. It's easier to get them in your home country. Orbitz.com has a 24 cancellation policy. You get an automatic refund if you cancel within 24 hours of purchasing a ticket. So you can buy a ticket, print it out, and then cancel it. However, I've never been asked to show proof of onward passage when I've flown into Korea without a work visa.
