|
|
If this has been posted before, I do apologize beforehand.
Anyways, I'm moving back to Korea this summer but was wondering if my Kindle would still work? Or more specifically, could I still purchase books from the US Amazon site and have it delivered wireless to my Kindle?
I'm curious because Amazon JP has their own site and there are some products they offer on the JP site but not on the US site, so I wasn't sure if there wouldn't be any restrictions.
So, in short, to sum it all, to make this damn post make sense: Can I have access to all the books in the US Amazon site even if I'm logging in from Korea?
Thanks in advance for the help. Muchly appreciated. |

Yes. The Whispernet service for downloading books is worldwide. I've been using my Kindle here for almost two years. The only thing to watch out for is that if you subscribe to newspapers or magazines via Kindle, there is a (fairly expensive) fee to download them through Whispernet. The free solution is to just download via Wifi or manually transfer from your computer.
Hope that helps. |

No problems with a Kindles working in Korea, I just got my second one and my wife has one they are all tied to Amazon US accounts, no problems at all getting books etc.
My biggest gripe was the costs in getting one here. They won't ship the cheap ones with "special offers" internationally or to APO addresses (I have friends on base) so an $89 basic one with a simple case came to $180 with shipping and a $46 customs "deposit". |

Yes, it works fine.
I suggest, if you haven't already, getting a library card at your local library and start checking out e-books. You can do that from Korea with your Kindle. I haven't bought a book in quite a while. |

NICE...My library here has a great ebook selection. Didn't even think I could do that.
Thanks for all the info, folks. Muchly appreciated. |

And you know that you can download books via USB, right? I have (blushes) 3 Kindles...2 of them dedicated to books I get from my home libraries and download via USB. I leave the wireless off so I can read them as I get to them. One of them I use for purchased Kindle books.
One more thing: Be sure to sign up for your local library. Most of them have ebook lending. While you're there, ask if you can also become a member of a larger library system. For example, because I live in New York State, I get free membership at New York Public Library.
And if you want even MORE free books, at the Free Library of Philadelphia, you can pay $35 a year for an out-of-area card! |

I can't remember what I paid for my kindle, but it was roughly what you paid sans the customs charge. I didn't have to pay for that, thankfully. I've read a few books on it; I need to do more of it. I love the thing. |
