| Anyone else see the correlation between the outlawing of corporal punishment and today's out of control students? |

| I blame the parents. Or more accurately 'parent' in most cases. |

It has gotten out hand but this has always happened. I knew a woman who taught in a tough neighborhood in new York in the fifties and early sixties. She used to make the toughest italian kids, kids who's fathers owned trucking firms, or were in waste management if you know what I mean ,her class monitors, brought them homemade cookies and such. No problems in class for Ms Goldstein.
I blame t.v. and movies. of course the parents who are too busy or too selfish to actually be parents. |

Nice cartoon but I don't think the kind of pupil , in the UK anyway, who assaults a teacher is worried about what grade he's going to get. And I'm pretty sure the parents would be even less bothered. The important thing would be whether the teacher 'dissed' them or not. |

| But the thing is, when I (and many others) were in school, if we "dissed" our teachers, our parents would be all over US!! Now, they're all over the teacher! |

Yes, true. In the UK it's all down to the 'I know my rights/I pay my taxes (even though most of them don't) type culture, coupled with the 'the police won't do anything mentality.' The NHS has the same problem. Doctors and nurses get attacked daily for not signing people off sick or giving them the drugs they want. The underclass don't respect doctors any more than they do teachers nowadays and they know that they can physically attack or intimidate both of them in most cases without any real come back.
To make things fair they should put a few of those signs around schools like they have in hospitals or in airports, warning people they'll be prosecuted if they attack any member of staff. Of course in reality no kid who physically assaults a teacher will ever get more than a mild telling off and a session with a psychologist but at least it'll give a semblance of equality. |

Bottom line is students know they can get away with it because there are no consequences. Principals and administrators don't like teachers who report abuse because it makes the school look bad.
Hagwons are the same in my experience. |

Sounds familiar. |
