I have finished my Korean sojourn, for now. However I still have cash in my KEB account. My card will soon expire.

Question: Will KEB send me a new card to an overseas address ? Or rather, has anyone had this done before ?

Yes, I could call them, but I am in a country where my phone does not have overseas calling....I tried with a calling card, but the nice lady put me on hold and kindly let my calling card run out of money before she came back...so i thought i would see if someone else has had this done.

thanks for any help !

If your card is about to expire you should get your cash out now unless you plan to return to Korea to get your cash at a later point.

They will not send a new card to you outside of the country and it will be impossible to get your cash send elsewhere without an "in person" visit to a branch.

This is what I feared. I do have online banking as well. Once my card expires (1 month from today) will this in any way effect my ability to do online transfers back to my bank in Canada ?

Second and last question. As a Canuck, have any of your large transfers, say 10 million won, (ScotiaBank) been held/locked by the bank for a period of time before access ?

Thanks for the Reply ttompatzz !

1) It shouldn't. Your on-line cert should have an independent expiry date.
2) Not for bank to bank transfers/remittances (beyond a day or so for it to actually be posted to the account). Yes for paper deposits (cashiers checks).

That makes sense. I just renewed my online certificate, but as you know sometimes rules can be illogically applied. I think I will empty the account soon. Lil kim's antics are costing me on the exchange, so here is hoping for a speedy return to 1050 to the dollar !

Thanks again ttompatz

As of yesterday, it's quickly returning there. Investors have regained confidence in the local market.

PS. I can always count on North Korea to make a quick buck. When it's all done, I'll come out having made about a million won in profit by having moved my dollars to won and then back to dollars again.
