|
|
I just got a job offer through EPIK in Jeju City. At first Jeju was my ideal location. The beautiful nature, tight knit community and laid back vibe were things I read about that attracted me. Upon doing some research (and second guessing), I thought about how I want to be able to explore the natural beauty that mainland Korea boasts but am unsure how often I will be able to get off the island without spending a fortune. Can anybody who has lived on Jeju shed some light on the expenses it takes to travel to the mainland? How often is it feasible to get off and explore the mainland? Do you feel content staying on the island if it is too much of a hassle? I am not a particularly claustrophobic person but dont want to feel trapped. Any insight is appreciated! Thank you. -Brenna |

I've got a friend who's lived in Seogwipo on Jejudo for 5 years now. It's no problem to pop up to the mainland every now and then. Korean Air runs flights throughout the day from Jeju airport to other major Korean cities, and the price is only around 80,000 won even if you get your ticket at the last minute. |

Planes are affordable. Check travel websites for current fares.

For natural beauty, Jeju is the place to be. You'll want to come up to the mainland occasionally for things like shopping, going to an amusement park, cultural events, etc. |

Having travelled to Jeju a few times (but not living there) I've found flights to be quick and reasonably priced. 150,000 round trip is affordable once a month on an entry-level salary. You probably will only go in the summer/spring/fall anyway because you can't beat winter on Jeju.
The ferry is also a possibility but it's overnight only (as far as I know). |

believe it or not, the seoul > jeju route is the busiest plane route in the entire world. you will definitely not have any problems finding cheap or readily available seats. |
