Didn't know this was going on so much until recently. Stealing metal is becoming big business. One article I read stated that dozens of manhole covers were stolen in Chicago, and believed to have been sold to China for scrap.

This is old news really. It is well known that thieves come in to abandoned houses or unfinished homes set to be sold and steal the copper wiring and anything else made out of copper in the basement--even the gutters sometimes. |

It's been going on in the UK for some time now. Lead is pretty valuable so old buildings often get a going over |

In Albuquerque they rip off copper wires from any place they can easily take it from. 40,000 dollars worth of damage was done to a hospital in the city by robbers so they could get 800 US worth of copper wire. The city is considering making stealing copper wire a separate type of crime. |

In the UK they take the plaques from war memorials, sick stuff.
In order to combat it they tried to target the scrap dealers, but I dont know if it worked. |
