So that I don't have a wasted trip to the bank:
Do Korean banks (I'm with Shinhan btw) issue personal
blank cheques???
I want to write out an exact amount.
Stupid question....
Please let me know.
Thanks!!!!! |

The short answer is "No, you cannot get a blank check." THis is because they do not have personal checks here, just cashier checks (a check written out and backed by the bank).
However ....
If you ask them at the counter, they can probably write one up for a certain amount for you. If you plan on using it outside Korea, you should verify exactly what they are giving you. The ones from the bank machines are all for set amounts, but if you have a request for a specific amount, you really should ask at the counter, like I said, try the counter people. And it will be hard, but make them understand what you want. Find some clerk that speaks English. If they can't do it, go to a different Shinhan branch instead of beating your head against a brick wall. You will get helped eventually.
Good luck! |

no one would really do that. They'd just either give someone the exact cash or transfer the exact amount via their online/phone banking. |
