Jinhae Gunhangje Festival is the largest and longest-running cherry blossom celebration in Korea, and will take place from April 1-10 in downtown Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do Province.
Marking its 51st anniversary this year, the Gunhangje Festival will feature various events including performances, exhibitions, with cherry blossoms as the festival�s centerpiece. The events include a memorial ceremony and parade to commemorate Admiral Yi Sun-shin* , fireworks over the sea, a light festival to illuminate the cherry blossom flowers at night, a naval band performance, and photo and drawing exhibitions.
Jinhae Naval Base and Korea Naval Academy will also be open to the public during the festival, providing festival participants with an opportunity to tour through facilities including the navy vessels and turtle ship as well as the Korea Naval Academy Museum.
Admission to the festival is free of charge.
* Admiral Yi Sun-Shin & Turtle Ship: Yi Sun-shin is the best known Korean hero from the Joseon Dynasty. He invented the Turtle Ship, the first known ironclad warship.
