With all bad things written here about Korean drivers (most warranted in my opinion), I'd like to add one good thing.

Almost all Korean drivers have their cell phones numbers posted in their front windshields, usually on a little fluffy pillow.

It's happened twice now that I've come back to where I parked my motorcycle to find it hemmed in by one or two cars. It was simple enough to flag down a passing Korean, and through my bad Korean and hand gestures, convince them to call up the owners of the cars and have them come move them.

The bad thing is, of course, is that the Koreans who trapped you in were being highly inconsiderate, and, i imagine, illegally double parked.

Actually they were double parked on the sidewalk. Very Happy

That's the craziness of Korea for you. Rude and inconsiderate to block me in, but polite enough to leave their cell phone number so I can ask them to move.

Here's another good thing about Korean drivers: they respect pedestrians more than do drivers in Canada and America (and maybe even than in other Western countries).

In Korea I regularly walk down busy side streets and let cars get pretty close to me, surprisingly close, confident that they will stop and turn before hitting me. They may be in a hurry but they stop on busy side streets for bikes, pedestrians, whomever probably because in Korea the driver is automatically held responsible for accidents with pedestrians and cyclists.

In contrast, my many experiences in Canada and America were often tense and I've been the object of anger for many a driver. Supposedly back home the pedestrian has the right of way but that is hypocritical b.s. In Canada and America, cars rule the road, every road, even back roads and side roads and alleys. "GET OUT OF MY WAY!" is the attitude pedestrians and cyclists get daily. And it was clear to me that if I was ever to be seriously hit the driver would claim that it was my fault for being where I shouldn't be. As a cyclist I was hit by a protruding mirror once and the guy had the gall to say I should pay him to repair it!

When an oncoming vehicle that weighs a ton is speeding at you, you should get the hell out of the way. Nothing worse than some monkey standing in the street scratching his ass with a dumbfounded look on his face. Get outta the way idiot! Roads are for cars, not leisurely strolls.

What happened to us once is that the stupid driver didn't pick up his cell phone all night and we couldn't get in our street to park our car on our (paid) parking spot! Glad we moved out of there soon after and now we have a nice underground parking and we don't have to leave 10 min early to call the driver(s) of the cars blocking our street anymore.

Thank you for making my point.

You must be quite frustrated on side roads and alleys in Korea if you drive them.

Wait a second. Maybe you were being satirical.

As many bad drivers that there are in Canada, the U.S. and other advanced nations, koreans by far are the worse. I'm talking advance nations.
People expect bad drivers in Laos, Thailand, India, some African countries, etc..
But koreans consider themselves an advanced nation? Well maybe...they are equal in some areas, but in the majority of areas, no! Especially judging from the driving habits! You don't see motorcycles driving on the sidewalks in Canada! You don't see the amount of red light runners in France, Canada, the U.S., etc. as in korea. Or the stupid bus and taxi drivers. And the idiots beeping their horn telling you to get out of the crosswalk when the person has the green light to walk across the street!

Damn, I lost my bet. (with myself)

I figured it would be at least 7 posts before this turned into a "lets bash Korean drivers" thread.

I think it depends where you are. Drivers in downtown cores of any city usually respect pedestrians more than drivers in the burbs.

Perhaps. But I'm in Incheon, and I see pedestrians almost killed on a daily basis.

I can see why.

In other news, the federal Liberals asked DAlton Mcguinty to not say a word publicly until Tuesday.
