Let me preface by saying I lived in Korea for 4+ years from 2004 - 2008. My wife (who I met there) is Korean, and we've been living in Canada for the past 5 years.

We're planning to visit Korea in a few weeks - arriving mid-April and staying until late May. My family are all hinting that they'd like to see us cancel/postpone our trip for obvious reasons... well for what they believe are obvious reasons. The "State of War" fiasco has been front page headlines for every major paper and newsite in North America it seems. Regardless of how much I tell them this is nothing new, I can't seem to convice them. Now, I wouldn't even bother with this thread if it were just me and my wife coming, but seeing as we're bringing our 7-month old son, I thought I throw it out there anyway. What's it like on the peninsula this time around? Is there a heightened sense of alarm? Would any of you living there now have any second thoughts about bringing a 7-month old for a visit?

They declared war on the South and the US and at the same time have increased tour packages and flights from/through China...

I wouldn't worry. It's all about getting attention and aid and not national suicide.

Just don't be doing any yachting in the disputed areas of the "Western Sea".

its totally safe. Why are you even bothering listening to your parents/family for one second? You are a grown adult with a child. Do as you wish and tune them out and tell them quit pestering you about it.

The above posters are right. It's totally safe......that is until the shooting starts. OP you are looking for reassurance and it's wrong for me or anyone to give it becasue nobody, governments included really know what is going to happen.

Percentage chance of war is low but it is higher than it was ten years ago.
