Hey, I would like to teach English in Korea, the thing is I am not a native English speaker. Now, correct me if I'm mistaken, I gathered that the nationality is only to obtain a visa, so my question is, is it possible for a non-native to teach in Korea on a working holiday visa or is it a specific type of visa you need?

If so, is there any prejudice towards teachers that aren't white in order to get a job? (I am French of Algerian origins)

Thanks!

If you were from one of the seven English speaking countries designated by immigration you could teach on a work holiday. A person can work on a work holiday BUT they have to be able to fulfill immigration and government regulations. Yet they would just have you change you visa to an E2.

The Sojourn Guide For Foreigners put out by Korean Immigration
On the H-1 Working Holiday Visa
Quote:
You are not eligible to apply if you are going to engage in fields
against the purpose of the agreement(MoU) or Korean Laws.
- You want to focus on employment rather than tourism after the entry.
There is no limit on period of employment at ※ one place. However,
in accordance with the principle of reciprocity, the same limitations
will be applied to nationals of countries that have restricted the
period of employment to our nationals.
- You want to work at an adult entertainment establishment.
- You want to work as a doctor, lawyer, professor, pilot which requires
professional licenses.
- You want to work as a foreign language instructor.
※You must change your status if you want to work as a foreign language
instructor.

You could try teaching French but would need degree and background checks.

Yes, also there is prejudice towards people who are not white or the ideal person they want (pretty, young, woman, etc). Korea can be racists at times.
