|
|
I've been granted a public school job in Korea. The application process was labyrinthine, but I did it! My gut instinct is tthat it won't come to a shooting war, so I am getting ready to pack my suitcase.
But during the busy rush of applying for my visa, I forgot one detail. My recruiter sent me a medical form. I was requested to go and see a doctor in the U.K. before I went to Korea, and I would be tested more rigorously in Korea. Is this a necessary requirement for teachers working in public schools? Is it an immigration requirement?
I am going to Korea on Monday, and won't have time to see a doctor before I go. To be honest, I'm amazed that I got this far. |

Self medical evaluation before you go to Korea. It does NOT need to be done by a doctor.
You will have a regular medical check/drug/std screen after you get to Korea.

Unless you suspect you have something wrong, which it sounds like you don't, I wouldn't worry about it. The Medical that they do in Korea is very basic. I think even if they catch something they would just give you medication for it. They mostly check for HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and intestinal parasites. |

If you're talking about the medical self-evaluation form, it basically just asks you about diseases that you know of--have you had HIV, alcoholism, etc. You don't need to run to a doctor and get tested, as tomppatz says you get tested for that stuff when you go to orientation, as an immigration requirement. Only reason to go to the doctor before you leave is if you want to make 100% sure you don't have something major like HIV which would make you fail the medical and force you to immediately buy an expensive plane ticket home. In general the required medical exam isn't a big deal as long as you're clear of HIV and drugs. |

The recruiter included a medical check to be done at home as part of the deal. But I don't know if its a requirement of the BOE or the recruiter trying to make sure that none of the teachers he has recruited end up failing the medical checks in Korea. I am inclined to think it is the latter. |
