I'm very interested in Asia and I am currently studying Korean language.
I am cosidering immigrating to an asian country.
I know that there is a process for South Korea, but does anyone know about China? I am refering to mainland China btw.
Do they also have a process for permanent residency?
I am Canadian, if that matters.
I also wonder if it is possible to have dual citizenship as a Canadian/South Korean and as a Canadian/Chinese citizen.
Thanks!!! |

You can be a citizen of both Korea and Canada. I don't know about China, though. |

can not become a citizen of China. If you marry a chinese citizen you might get permanent resident status after ten years or so and a lot of paperwork, and by a lot hundreds of pages. but it is rarely given. |

What kind of status do you get in China if you married a CHinese? Just curious. |

You get PR type status. However, you have to be married for a long time to get. I know a guy who has been married almost 20 years to a Chinese national. He has, but he hasn't had it the whole time they have been married.
China sucks in that they don't issue cards to foreigners like Korea and many other countries do when you are working there. So you have to carry your passport with you everywhere. People married to nationals get an ID card which at least gives them the benefit of not needing to carry their passport everywhere. They also don't have to worry about visas. You guys think Korean visa process is extreme, China's is pretty bad too the first time you get it, and the cost is pretty nuts each year you renew it. |
