Hey expats!
I'm new to the board, but I've been using Dave's ESL for quite sometime.
I'm looking to start a whiskey and other fine liquors such a cognac, brandy, vodka, etc club here in Seoul. I live in the Nowon region.
I'm hoping that every month or so, we can all chip in and get a nice bottle of liquor and just sit around and share war stories, whatever.

JW Black on the rocks or "frozen" Gold label for blended whiskey
Single Malt either Macallan 18 or Singleton 18

of course Windsor XR, JW Blue, Swing are all good too

Thanks for the response.
Yeah, its not going to be focused strictly on whiskeys or liquors. I'm thinking that every couple of weeks, if we do this, we can choose an exotic or luxury liquor and pool our resources.

You can try different kinds of Korean hard liquors.
By that, I'm definitely NOT talking about those green-bottled one-buck-a-bottle cheap Soju you will find in every corner of this country. There are loads of better spirits in country which, ironically, even most Koreans have barely heard of. To comprehend the relatively weak market penetration and mass exposure of those I'm talking about, you might as well think of American craft beers or microdistilleries in comparison to big-name drinks.

whiskey tastes good straight. rum always seemed more like a mixing spirit, like vodka.

i'd be down for some whiskey, but 300,000 for a bottle? not sure about that.

i miss high quality, affordable japanese whiskys

Hey guys,
Yeah, one of the reason for starting the club is
to split costs on the alcholol. The 300k Ballantines isn't that bad of a
deal, especially if its divided up a few ways.

The best way to enjoy whiskey is to put it on the rocks
and savor it like a fine wine. Louis, its a fine liquours club, I want to
make that clear. It wouldn't be whiskey day in and day out.. I want
to mix it up a bit, so one day we might have rum, cognac, vodka, etc..

Really, its completely open and I'm open for ideas.
If we got enough people, we could go down to that whiskey show in Feb.
I was looking at it online. I'll try to get a price on some tickets if anyone is
interested.

I really wish I could join this but I live in the sticks. I've just started getting into whiskey this last year, know next to nothing, but really enjoy the heck out of the stuff.

That event in Seoul looks great. Consider my girlfriend and I very interested in joining that if a group gets together.

yeah, you could divide the cost of a 300,000 won bottle a few ways. but then i'd get less whisky. i'd probably get near the same enjoyment from a 100,000 won bottle. in reality, i'll probably just drink a 30,000 won bottle.


and..re; andong soju...is it really all that premium? or just higher strength. same foul stuff to me...
