Sorry I'm sure there are dozens of threads on this but atm the search function seems to be down.

I'm about to finish my first year here and intend to renew, and my hagwon is happy to do so. But what do I have to do concerning my Visa? I'm on an E2. I don't need another criminal background check from home, I assume? I've not left the country since arriving here. How long until my finish date should I leave visiting Immigration?

Second question, I want to finally travel a bit this year. Do I need to request a multiple re-entry visa when I renew? A person I know told me they travelled on the standard visa but that sounds fishy to me.

You can extend your status of stay (renew for another year) any time in the last 30 days of employment.

There is no need for a multi-entry or re-entry. Your ARC governs your status of sojourn, period of validity and re-entry. Your actual visa (the thing stuck into your passport) is not relevant to anything after you get your ARC.

Since 2010 all foreigners who have an ARC have been entitled to unlimited exit/re-entry privileges without the need to obtain a re-entry permit for as long as their ARC remains valid.

Excellent, thank you very much. Smile You seem to be the font of information around these parts. Very Happy

EDIT: Just to clarify. Do I have to visit Immigration before my last 30 days or should I only visit them during my last 30 days.

You need to go to immigration at the latest within 2 weeks of starting your new contract, earlier the better I guess. If you go later than 2 weeks, youll get fined for working illegally.

I got fined 80,000 won because of this rule that I knew nothing about, and of course how could I know? (i expected to visit the immigration office before my ARC expired, which was 4 weeks after my contract expired)
