Does anyone know how long it takes process papers for a foreign wife to immigrate to the USA? She already has a TIN and our child has a US passport.

Is nine months usually enough time?

This site has an excellent forum that will help you out:

First, I believe you will need to establish residency in the US. That takes six months to do so. The TIN does not matter in any way.

If you are an American then your child is a US citizen and can immediately go to the US. It could take up to a year for your wife. (6 mo. residency (you in the US and she here) and 6 mo. for visa processing). If you find out differently feel free to share. The true experts are on VJ so check there.

I did it, well my wife did it, in two-three months, but we don't have any kids, and I still had my residence established in America. It took some time to get all the paperwork together, but once we started turning stuff in to the embassy it was pretty quick.

The last I heard they were getting faster with the processing so 2 months was doable but before that they were fairly slow (4-6 months). Keep in mind that with the "fiscal crisis" they will likely get slower once again.

One of the hardest parts is when you get your hopes up and they are dashed. It's a long involved process, head over to VJ as the site is very well maintained and will provide you all the help you need. They have step-by-step guides there to help you through the process and the forums are great.
