I basically got the boot from a hagwon because they screwed up all of the curriculum and it was light years too hard for the kids to learn. Instead of owning up to their own mistake and eating the cost of the textbooks, they simply told the parents that it was my fault and they fired me (well, they forced me to resign).

They also screwed me on my pay, claiming that my apartment was too dirty when I left but simultaneously keeping me at the hagwon until 7:30pm on my last day when they new I had to leave no later than 8:00pm in order to get home to my new place on the FAR side of Seoul before the subways closed.

They could easily have given me me LOR at 5pm instead and I would have had time to do a much deeper cleaning. So they claimed they hired an ajumna to clean the place. They won't even tell me how much they paid, except that it seems like it was around 200,000 won based on how low my pay was.

Anyway, I know this hagwon has hired workers illegally in the past - people who do not have the correct visa to work in Korea. I know that I could report them to Immigration, but I was under the impression that if I did so, I would get a monetary reward.

I don't want to be blacklisted so one of my Korean friends was going to do it for me so my name would not be involved but he was told that there is no monetary reward.

Anybody know how this works? Do they ACTUALLY give you a monetary reward or is that just an urban legend?

The MOE gives a reward...not Immigration. But this is primarily an Immigration matter.

BTW If you are going to rat some one out... why not do it because it's the right thing, (as opposed to getting money for it)?

Not that I really care either way...but you are likely to get flamed by other responders

Plenty of times, other than on the playground. If someone's doing something illegal.

Think about it.

If you're planning to hurt other teachers (provided they are still working at your hagwon or somewhere else in-country) and then ask other teachers in this forum about the possibility of a reward just to "get even," what does that say about you?

Easy answer: The only foreign teacher it would hurt is the rhymes with witch who screwed me over in the first place in order to get herself a raise.
