Don't bother... huge waste of time.
Do you really think learning table, combined with under, and over is going to be useful? Not to mention there's different words for different tables. How about clicking pictures of people running, walking, and chasing? It's a terrible way to learn and a complete waste of time. Don't believe the false hype.
And it's not going to teach you how to read Korean either. |

Rosetta stone is useless for anything more than basic survival vocabulary. You won't learn grammar or how to contruct your own sentences, just set phrases to memorize. Useless phrases for the most part. |

what's the point in learning korean when every korean you talk to thinks you're speaking english and won't understand a word you are saying no matter how much you practice.
Oh and I studied the Rosetta Stone. I learned a lot of vocab but not how to make a sentance. My listening and reading improved, but I can' speak.
Hey, that's exactly how the Koreans do it. They can listen and read, but can't speak. Its a perfect match. |

I downloaded it from Piratebay. Used it a few times. I can say boy, girl, man, woman, dog, boy with dog, plane, car, ball, girl with ball, boy in plane, etc... Oh yeah, and elephant. Not a good program if you ask me. I think I'm just going to get a book from the library or something.
Moonmanhead, what's going on in your avatar? |

Go with Sogang, online.
http://korean.sogang.ac.kr/
I think you need IE for it, though.
If you're going with torrents, do pimsleur korean. Pimsleur uses too much "imnida" for my taste, but it's still good. |

| Thanks for the reality check, I was thinking about getting it. Sounds like my money is better spent on trading language lessons, or getting a tutor. |

| Language lessons aren't that great until you get to a certain degree of proficiency, IMO. they're better for when you want to up your conversational skills, which would take a few months, I think. you need listening and repeating, and lots of it, before you give away your time for exchanges. YBM in jongno does classes for around 115k/mo, which is not a bad deal, but it's really formal and repetitive. Still, it's good for learning the alphabet and basic sentence structure. I recommend doing that for two months in addition to the sogang/pimsleur before moving on. |

| I downloaded the Korean Rosetta Stone, along with every other language they offer, from The Pirate Bay, for free. I'm so glad I didn't pay for it. I compare the program to weight loss/hair loss/big dick pills. If you're really going to learn a language, you're going to have to put in the time and ground work stuff as basic as proper phoneme and syllable pronunciation or, in terms of Korean, the reading and writing of Hangul and Rosetta Stone doesn't seem to offer that. In fact, it's one of their sales pitches; they brag about the natural process of immersion without those tedious explanations their program offers. The problem with the concept is that you don't have nearly enough interaction to make it work. And you're an adult, who's going to have questions and want explanations. Instead it's just you, some cheesy pictures and the voices of a Korean man and woman, sounding like specters somewhere in the background, standing as sentinels at the gates of Korean fluency. Korean is a way complex language and I don't think Rosetta Stone is up to the challenge, nor do you need the headache. |
