According to Time and Date.com it's a bank holiday on Wednesday, is that correct?
I don't see it on other websites being considered a day off. I can't imagine hagwons will get it off, but maybe public schools? Can anyone confirm?
Cheers.

No it is not a public holiday.

Look at a Korean calender unless you see Red then it is not a public holiday. Still, public school teachers and a few others might get the day off. In general hagwon teachers will not get it. If you are lucky, the day will be light as kids are kept at home or find something else to do. |

| Public schools aren't closed May 1st. But some contract teachers might get the day off if the Principal lets them. Full-time teachers do not get the day off. |

Yes, all banks will be closed and public school native speakers have the day off. Daycare centers will also be closed.
Union teachers will have to work but hey they get 21 more days off than native speakers in year anyway. |

| It's Korean Labor Day, or at least that's what they tell me. At public schools it's a sports day where they run around outside competing in games, so there's no teaching going on. EPIK teachers get the day off and it's in the contract, and your POE should have notified your school. I dunno about the non-EPIK POE's and hagwons. |

Hagwons will be open unless they have a very nice boss. After School programs may also be running classes (mine is).
I also heard that a few school will be closing at lunch time on Friday due to Children's Day being on a Sunday this year. |

| One of my schools has an exam day while another has regular classes. The elementary school next year has a sports day, I think. My middle school today has classes so I went. This school is cool as they have given me extra days off and classes were cancelled last week. So, I just exchanged it and told this school I'd work today. If you're cool to me; I'm cool to you. No need to rock the boat. |
