| I bought a car for 300,000 W 3 years ago. It was good for the last 2 1/2 years, but I haven't used it as much lately and now have maintenance costs estimated for about 2 million won, so I'm looking to just get rid of it. I heard you can get about 500,000 W for a junker/scrap car, otherwise it'd be nice to not pay anything. Any advice? |

| Don't expect a lot of money for your old beater. More likely than not you'll need to pay to get it junked. |

If it still runs, find and take it to the nearest pye-ja-cha (페자차,) aka junkyard/recycling center for cars. You probably won't get 500k for it, closer to 1-200k, depending on the condition, model, and year. They'll take care of all the necessary paperwork/registration/license plates and you'll be free and clear of it in 20-30 minutes. Just be sure you don't owe any back taxes, insurance and/or tickets before taking it in.
Alternatively, take it to your mechanic (if you've ever used one!!), and they'll do it for you, if you have a decent relationship with them. Don't expect to see any cash for it, though. |
