Korea has been good for my wife and I for our time here but I am getting ready to return to the states. God, I miss home right now, I want to get partial/season pass to my local major league baseball team (there only 200 bucks for 13 games!), I want to have a garden, grow some vegetables, and fix up my beautiful old house.
My best buddy just told me that he is making 180,000 grand in my home state now. I still have a much bigger bank account them him now but at 180,000 a year he will surpass me eventually. He is only 33 and talking about buying a boat. I guess it's time for me to change careers. Ha ha.
I want to go home!

That it isn't all dome and gloom back home. Many of us will not be flipping burgers back home. |

I can sympathize. Everybody goes home.
It isn't all terrible back home. I think a lot of people forget how it works back home, and are sort of scared as a result. But honestly, you're not going to be on the streets. I've been unemployed back home, and it wasn't so bad, and I did get a job. Life goes on. You'll be able to do it.
Just don't think, "my friend makes $180K, so I can too." Not sure if that's true. But it won't be that bad. I visited Canada last summer, and just walking down the street made me happy - that doesn't cost anything.
18 months left for me here, but that's only because I have a family, so it has to move slowly. If I were single, I'd just finish the contract. |

I have family here too so I got stay for 14 more months myself. I don't know if I can make it that long.
Sure, I am not going make 180k. He's taller and more handsome than me with a MBA. He did say however, he'll help me to get started. |

OP I'm very happy for you, truly. I can't wait to be in your position, unfortunately my Korean wife and I have to stay and bank money here because she has a job that she couldn't get in America that pays pretty well.
We'll go back to America in about 10 years or so I am assuming. But good for you and enjoy the lifestyle back home and freedom and all of the amenities and the US provides. You've put your dues in and now take some time off and enjoy! |

Don't get down about your friend. A lot of people have money, but no time to enjoy it.
I really don't see the point in making tons of money with no time to spend with family, things I enjoy, etc. |

yep. working 12 hour shifts, overtime, fighting traffic to and from work...
It takes a toll. Living in Korea was the first time I didnt own a car and it was a cool experience.
not having a car= okay
having a car and needing it everyday- okay.
Not needing a car but having one for the weekends= Perfect. |
