greetings. I recently gave notice and am hoping for the best of things with current employer as we part ways but I'd also like to be prepared for the worst. If, for whatever reason, I fail to get an LOR, is it possible to leave the country and return on tourist visa and begin again from there? has anyone done this before? Is there a time restriction on leaving and returning to the country or could this be done in say... 24 hours? also, tourist visas can be issued at Incheon International, yeah? thanks. |

My understanding is that you can come and go as you please. However, without an LOR you can't get another visa until after the expiration date of the visa you were on when you broke your contract.
Look at an LOR as saving you a flight and the associated expense. Therefore it's worth money to you. Don't be afraid to pay your boss for it. Taking a loss on some money you're owed might not really be a loss in the big picture. |

Midnight run means disappearing the day after payday never to be seen or heard from again.
Under current policy, IF you secure a LOR you can transfer to a new employer or get a D10.
If you do not secure a LOR and/or have a valid complaint on file at the labor office then you will not be allowed to transfer to a new employer or change your status to D10.
Unlike (recent) times past when exiting would clear your status and allow you to begin again immigration has reverted to an older policy of not allowing a new visa application until your previous period of sojourn has expired.
A quick exit and return on and entry stamp is NOT a visa.
ICN does not issue visas. They place a 30/90/180 day allowed entry into your passport - visa waived due to bilateral treaties with our countries of origin.

You 100 % definitely will have problems with immigration when you enter at the airport without a return ticket in your hand. However this is easily dealt with by buying a ferry ticket online from Busan to Fukuoka, Japan and having that with you when you arrive. You can keep the ticket and travel to Fukuoka, or easily cancel the ticket in Korea and get a refund to your credit card within a month. |

If I quit a job without a letter of release, it it possible to come back to Korea after the period of sojourn has expired? I recently started a new job in Korea (after moving from a different job here) and the school is refusing to abide by the contract on just about everything and I'm tired of fighting with them. However, I don't feel like I'm ready to be done with Korea and have enjoyed several years here. |

I've entered numerous times on a one-way ticket. Including within the past year.
Try dressing a bit smarter. would be my advice.
The only times I've been asked this question- and searched- has been when I've been travelling in a T-shirt and frayed jeans. |

and you did this "several times" without a work visa? Highly doubtful.
First of all, the airline or carrier (ship) would not even let you board if you had a one-way ticket and no visa. |

I think this is the first time that I've agreed with Mr. Julius on this board. Whatever may have been the case with others, I too have been able to enter Korea on a one way ticket and no visa. If Korean Immigration asks any questions I show them the contract and state I will be going to Japan in a couple of days to get the visa. Never have had any problems whatsoever.
But then too like Mr. Julius I take care to dress like I would for school/job interview. Suit and tie combination, a recent haircut&shave, and a confident and unapologetic demeanor. |

i know someone who wears a suit whenever he flies, in an effort to get bumped up to business class.LOL
it seems to work about half the time, but i don't know if it's worth having to carry around on vacation in addition to the hassle of having it dry cleaned once you get back. |
Fly business just once on a long haul and you would never make that statement again.

Well that is very odd but it appears to happen. I was wrong.
As for dressing well for a flight, it helps that is for sure. |
