What is the Korean equivalent to eBay or Craigslist? I'd like to buy/sell used items and hire a research assistant and Korean language tutor. I'm aware that there is an eBay Korea and a Craigslist Seoul, but both aren't very popular with Koreans. |

Ebay isn't even Ebay anymore.
Ebay is basically Gmarket, since they own it and all.
Ebay is a clearing house for wholesalers, just like Gmarket is.
Craigslist on the other hand, well Koreans would likely use internet Cafes or something like that.
Their main second hand online shop is a Naver Cafe. hundreds of thousands of users. |

I've been told Koreans don't buy used stuff, only new stuff. Thus those types of sites aren't popular. |

Complete fabrication. tons of Koreans buy used stuff, and there are several popular places to buy it. |

Both Gmarket and Auction.co.kr are now owned by eBay ... I know this for a fact. But both the respective websites are operated now by eBay.
The reason is that Koreans will turn away from eBay Korea as it is foreign owned. They will eventually launch an eBay Korea website (gradually) and do away with Gmarket and Auction sites ... once Koreans become more tolerant and accepting? |

Everyone already knows auction and gmarket are owned by eBay. Yahoo had a small stake in gmarket when it came out. Koreans don't care if it's foreign owned site. Have you seen how popular foreign brands are in Korea? |
