Won't be there, but I will recommend that you get out of Jeju City as fast as is humanly possible. The southern end of the island might be more of your cup of tea.

PM, or call when you get here and I'll give you some info. I work at a dive shop in Seogwipo (south coast of Jeju), which is much nicer than Jeju (especially if you want the beach).

If you give me a PM, I can give you some more info. I live in Jejusi, and could recommend a few things to do if I were to actually think about it. But I agree about the beaches, if you want to sit your butt down on a beach, head to Jungmun near Seogwipo on the south of the island. But there is a lot to do and see here on the island. Beer? You've got a couple of choices for good bars...

What days are you going to be here? Most people I know are on vacation from around the 24th to early August. So a lot of them are going to Thailand, which would mean fewere foreigners to meet down here. But hey, who needs to see foreigners when you've got the lovely Koreans and the nice beach!

You MUST be referring to the only two places on Jeju resembling foreigner bars, "The Playhouse" and "The Doors". Oh yeah, now there's the epicenter of excitiment on a night out.....Rolling Eyes Laughing

Actually, the Doors has a nice atmosphere if you take a few friends, and the Playhouse is good depending on the people. I used to frequent both, but I've cut down on my drinking a lot.

To be honest, I was referring to a couple of other bars actually. There's Shadow Hunters in Jungang Ro, GPs and Khan in Sichung, plus a great place called Bubble Beer near my apartment.

Seriously, if any of you want to fly down here, find the Bubble Beer that I'm talking about, then walk around aimlessly for a few hours looking for a white guy, feel free. I'm pretty sure saying that it's near my apt isn't going to give too much away.

Besides, I don't particularly care about remaining annonymous (is that spelled right? doesn't look it, but oh well).

Hmmmm....passed by Bubble beer many a time, but never gave it much of a notice...been inside GP's at least once but it seemed a claustrophobic for my tastes...had any luck in any those places meeting some cuties who speak a little English KPRROK? Those bars seem to be more Korean-oriented places so I suppose you would stick out as more of a novelty, a good or bad thing , depending on how you look at it....sometimes it seems more diffcult to meet people in Korean-style bars because everyone is so darn group-oriented and really hesitant to just go up and start talking to stangers....How good is your Korean?

Yes, GP's is a little small, and it depends on the crowd, but the atmosphere can be great fun! The bad part is that it tends to draw out the worst in people sometimes. A couple weeks back, a couple of Brits were in there talking smack to a couple of my friends (an Aussie and a Canadian) then as my friends were leaving, they decided to sucker-kick 'em and a brawl ensued.

Bubble Beer, not a westerner in there except for me. I like that sometimes. Of course, I like just watching people on the street to see how the act and behave. Sometimes, you meet some fun people who know a little English, but mostly any conversation you have is through gestures, and very broken speech.

Ladies? Yeah, I've met a few good looking and fun ladies at the Korean bars. The funny thing is that they're actually a bit more open in those surroundings as it's not foreign to them...they're more comfortable. In the Playhouse, the Korean girls mainly stick to themselves and rarely talk to any of the foreign guys, with a few exceptions.

My Korean? pitiful. I've just started learning, but my tutor isn't very good, so I'm not really learning much. But oh well, I'll survive.
