Hi guys, big fan of the forums.

I've started applying for various programs in S. Korea such as Chungdahm, epik/gepik, and morgan recruiting???

My question is quite worrisome, and bugs me on a daily basis.

I am I guess to be exact 5'8, about 226~ or so pounds which puts me in the 'obese' range. I have started to work out etc...diet....I also pulled my right ankle/knee as a child and ever since have an awkward limp. Nothing hurts though.

Anyway, would one of these programs or any....still consider an individual in my shoes?

Have you guys seen someone in a wheelchair or special circumstance working for a Hagwon or national teach English in Korea program?

On the plus side, I have ~4yrs teaching/tutoring as a part time job migrant students and in the last 5 months i've started tutoring privately to adults learning English. I meet the rest of the requirements...clean record, bachelor's degree....etc

TL:DR Have you ever seen someone semi obese teaching in Korea from a foreign state?

Someone would accept you but if you need a wheelchair then they may change their mind when you arrive.
Honestly, it will be difficult for you. What Americans consider overweight most Koreans consider obese. Coming here will result in you being pointed at, ridiculed, stared at, and laughed at. People won't sit next to you on the bus or train. People will tut because you take up two seats. All of this has happened to my Canadian friends (they have now returned home).
Koreans tend not to hide their feelings and can often be blunt/rude. Koreans also place high importance on how you look and therefore often treat overweight people poorly.
Whatever choice you make, good luck.

Most foreign teachers are rather large. Especially the females. I don't think anyone will care.

LOL. TT

What the man says it true though. There is some chubby here but no obese, not like United States obese. There's actually one truly obese girl in our gym and she gets laughed at / pointed at regularly. It's brutal.

Anyhow, take it into consideration.

I can't say for sure how it'll effect your employment but what Seoulman said about accepting you and changing their mind when they see you might be true for you. At least it is for black people.

Maybe you could take this opportunity to get into better shape? Start a lifting program and eat cleaner. Not for Korea, but for yourself?

That is so true. Why do western women let themselves go like that? And most aren't even that old. Pretty sad state of affairs when obesity is the norm.

There is an overabundance of very large western gals teaching in Korea. If they can get by, so can you.

But do please go on a diet, losing that lard will help you live a little bit longer.

good god stop being such a pig, just because a western woman won't go out with a lot of you even if you were the last man alive doesn't mean they are all fat pigs

man i get sick of the attitude of many western guys here. hey develop a personality, stop playing video games and maybe stop treating women like property and maybe you'll get one to look at you

A lot of the western females here are obese. Most of the ones who aren't obese are fat. It's a real shame that they let themselves go like that. When they are called out on this matter they will reply with such garbage as 'you are just angry because you can't get a woman,' which is totally not true.

A big hand for all the obese/fat ladies in the house!

Confused

Are you delusional?

Damn, I don't want to be that guy who picks on the fat guy, but really man, do you not see how ridiculous you sound?

I don't know, I've always appreciated brute honestly when I've made a mistake or messed up. But I realize not all people can handle it. Primarily because of deeper psychological problems.

But bro, cut the bs about taking your health seriously.

Also try learning the metric system if you want to be understood anywhere outside the Bayou.

Gotta agree with the fat western girls observation. What's wrong with you girls? Stuffing your face in Itaewon no doubt then swilling down a couple pints like your at a football game. And you wonder why many a men choose Korean girls.
I have also noticed the men here are much more leaner than the girls and pretty decent looking (no homo). Not all, but A LOT more thinner than the girls from what I've seen, and I've been here over 3 years and going on a pretty decent sample size.

Nobody wants to be fat. Most fat people don't really know why they cant control their food intake and weight. Before anyone chimes in with "I can control it, I choose not to", dont. Nobody would choose to be overweight. It looks bad and is unhealthy. There is no upside to obesity.

I have learned that flour and sugar are the causes of compulsive eating and spikes in blood sugar that screw up the bodys natural desire to burn body fat.
If you cant control your weight, look up FA, Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous. I have lost 90 lbs in the last 8 months from abstaining from flour and sugar and weighing and measuring my food. It works.

So, I'm not here to pass judgement on anyone. I'm a former fatty myself. If you really want to change, look into the no flour no sugar thing. I have done no exercise to achieve this weight loss. That proves to me how disruptive flour and sugar are to my system. I'm into exercising again now for health benefits, not weight loss. Proper diet will regulate body weight and fat levels. Exercise is to build strength and make you feel good.
