Accepted a job in Istanbul (I know, I know) and have to get started on the visa stuff. I need to get a copy of my transcript notarized. Will they do it?

Will they notarize anything you ask them to, or does it need to be an official copy? All I can do at this time is print out a copy of my transcript... same with my TEFL certificate. Will they certify/notarize that?

Notarize as in make a certified true copy or authenticate as in swear anaffidavit of authenticity?

They MIGHT make a certified true copy of an original document.
They WON'T authenticate anything.

Contact your uni. They should be able to issue an "official" transcript and you can get an apostille on it (Turkey is a signatory to the apostille treaty) to "legalize it" for overseas use.

Hmm... well... whatever they do there. I've gotten something notarized there once and don't remember the details. But yeah, I don't have the original documents. Yet my contact in Istanbul is asking for notarized or certified copies of the documents. Argh. This stuff makes my head spin.

Thanks for writing.

It does seem simpler to get your university to just send them an official transcript directly. They'll be sealed and will have been stamped by the school.

The diploma, if needed, of course is another matter.

Yeah... the problem is I'm still not sure Turkish Immigration accepts official transcripts or only certified/notarized copies. As strange as it seems, as I recall Korean Immigration only accepts the latter (or do I have that wrong?).

I have the original diploma and getting official transcripts would take some time but isn't that complicated. That's what I'm pulling for.

Thanks for the feedback. I hope this isn't too general/off-topic.

It seems that Turkey is party to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents. You should probably call the Turkish Embassy or Consulate for your area and see if they're fully "into" it the way South Korea Immigration is (meaning, call the Turkish government entity and ask if an apostille is required).

If its as useless as the british embassy is....... then probably no.

I don't even know what function embassies fulfill anymore apart from costing vast amounts of taxpayers money.
