I bought my mom a nice watch (over 2 million) for her birthday. Do I have to pay duty on it when I go to Canada? |

How long have you been away from Canada?
If you have been out for MORE THAN 1 year you have an exemption of $10,000 IF you are moving back AND the item has been in your possession for more than 6 months. The 6 months is waived if you have been out for more than 5 years.

If you are NOT moving back OR have been away for less than 1 year then your duty free exemption is $800. You pay duty on the amount above your duty free allowance.
Gifts of more than $60 are dutiable on the excess and/or subject to GST/HST/PST.
