cut a long story short...
mix up at school with pension and nat. h. ins.
noticed i was being over payed and checked, seems school has been paying my health ins. direct to my account hoping i would foot the other 50% and take it all to the health office every c.m.
they havent paid any pension. recruiter said that i dont have to pay if i dont want to. I so far havent had a pension deduction from my monthly pay.
so finally, the question...
What happens if i dont make the contributions every month? i thought it was illegal (even as a brit) to not pay into korean pension?
thanks
(ps sorry it was a bit long winded, just wanted to save people the time of saying my school is trying to rip me off). |

Sounds like a independent contractor run around. School has you as a IC, but still pays for half for health insurance. Does not tell contractor(you) that responsibility of paying for health insurance and pension are both upon you now. In general if you get health insurance, you get pension. They are both required and linked under Korean law. Your recruiter is wrong and lying. Yes, it sucks being a UK citizen and not getting the lump sum refund, but thems the breaks.
If you do not make the pension contributions, do not expect to get health insurance too. Remember linked! Also if in the future you find another job or transfer. You can expect NPS and NHIC to come after you for back payment of what is owed. Hope you have an extra couple million in the end. |

thanks for the reply. The school give me an extra 50,000 a month in my pay to cover the insurance payment.
So youre saying not paying pension must be illegal becasue i would have to pay it all back at some point. cheers, i just wanted to confirm this because it looks like my recruiter is talking out of his behind. my school dont know any better so trust everything he says.
