I understand the whole process for getting an F-4 visa but I have a question regarding getting the hojuk (family registry).

I plan to have my cousin or uncle mail me a copy since they live in Korea, but I was wondering what information I have to give them on my mother.

e.g. name, old korean ID number, DOB, etc etc

thanks!

so i ended up getting my F4 in March 2012, it was a little more difficult than expected. but i didn't end up working in Korea. thankfully it is valid for a couple years and will be easier to renew when i want.

In order to get the hojuk I needed my mom's old citizen ID number, her full legal name when she was a citizen, her DOB, the city she was born in, and her last address. (I am not 100% sure if all this info was needed, but I gave it to my uncle just in case). I do not know how to go about getting one, since I had my uncle who lives in Korea do it for me. But I know that he didn't go to her hometown so I think any jumin center.

Once I had my hojuk, I met with the Korean Consulate. In order to get my F4, I needed:

- My birth certificate listing my mom
- my moms Korean citizenship renunciation form (** This is important, even if a Korean citizen became a citizen of another country and thereby losing Korean citizenship, they are still required to submit proper paperwork. We had to do this extra step but it can be done at the same time)
-Hojuk listing my mom (but you cannot be on it, or you must get dual citizenship)
- US passport
-Application form and fee

everything has to be an original and not a copy. I had to hand them all originals and my passport and I got it back 2 weeks later with the F4 visa inside.
