If you are going to be in Korea for awhile then just spend the money now. They have a decent re-sale value as well. Bought a really nice Samsung one 4 years ago and its saved me the hassle of dealing with mold. |

Depends on why you need it.
If you want to keep your apartment dry AND cool, get an air conditioner.
If you want to keep your apartment dry and warm, get a dehumidifier.
A dehumidifier will use up a decent amount of electricity, and it puts off heat - enough heat that it will warm the room up by a few degrees if you leave it running long term.
Those hippo containers are for putting into closets and confined spaces to keep the moisture down. They have that specific purpose. I would not recommend using them to keep the whole place dry. |

+1
I think the electric bill is cheaper than with an air conditioner, and the unit is cheaper of course. But it will not be cooler, just not so damn sticky. |

I use them, they work well in small spaces. Don't expect them to work the whole room. |

All the above posts are sound and solid. I have nothing to add. |
