I just moved to the Bokjeong station area (on the border of Seoul and Seognam) and there doesn't seem to be too many good Korean language programs nearby. Seoul National, Yonsei, Sogang, Sookmyung and Ehwa are all far away.
I checked out the program at the good morning academy in Bundang but I was not impressed.
Somewhere in Jamsil, north Seongnam or south gangnam is what I am trying to find.
I'm looking for an evening program.
Know of any places???
Thanks!!!!

I go to http://www.seoul-kla.com/ .
It's a nice place, most of the students are Japanese. |

I go to KLA. Although I love my teacher as a person and don't have any problems with the school itself or the people who run it, I find that the instruction is quite boring, repetitive, non-comprehensive, and doesn't place that much emphasis on speaking in a natural setting. My teacher asks us the same question in a row and we have to answer it one by one. It's the same every class. It gets boring while you're listening to the other 5 students in your class struggle through answering the question. I would appreciate some more inventive lesson planning such as games, speaking drills, or just... anything else besides asking and answering questions in a row. When we aren't doing that, she is explaining things and there is way too much teacher talking time.
Yet I continue to go there because Sogang is doing A books this semester and my level matches B, so I am off of their book scheme forever. I think Yonsei is too expensive. I feel like I don't have any other options, so if you find something besides KLA that you're happy with, please let me know. |

I personally studied at a Korean Hagwon just down the street from Yonsei called Best Friend Korean Language & Cultural Center http://bestfriendcenter.com/eng/ It's more focused on conversation and was fun. Also unlike others the teachers can speak great English (although only will if asked direct questions). However it was too far for me to travel from Incheon so now I study privately with the Fresh Korean Institute. |

I attended KLA and pretty much agree with thebektionary about that place. It was OK, I don't regret going there for a few months and it's better than nothing, but later I switched to Metro Korean Academy (near Gwanghwamun) and liked that one a lot better. They use Sogang books starting with Level 3. Also, at MKA, once you get to an intermediate level, you can start taking conversation-only classes, if you're tired of plowing through the grammar books and just want to work on improving conversational ability. A bit on the expensive side for a hagwon, but you can sign up month-by-month. |

It's mid to north Gangnam, rather than South Gangnam, but I go to the Seoul National University program that's run by Gangnam-Gu Office. It's not at the actual Gangnam-gu office, but near by at Gangnam University of California Riverside International Education Center (강남구립국제 교육원). The autumn term just started, and the winter term will start in December, I think. My term runs from Sep 3rd- Nov 17, twice a week, 100 minutes per class (Chuseok week is off).
There are about 10 people in my class. The teachers are nice, but I feel there could be more role plays and a lot less English used in class. For the price though, it's good and it's also a good way to meet new people. We use NSU's "Active Korean" book.
Feel free to PM me if you want any more info
Edit: I put down the price, but then remembered I get a discount because I work for Gangnam District public school. I'm not sure what the regular price is, but with the discount, I'd go as far as to say it is cheap. |

Easy one - check out Lexis Korea ( www.lexiskorea.com )
Brand new school (I was student #00002 !) just a couple of minutes walk from Gangnam Station.
I've got nothing bad to say about this place - great mix of nationalities, lovely teachers and a really professional set up. All the teachers speak English if you need the help, but they are pretty good about keeping you speaking in Korea.
I had some opening special, but I think it's about 250,000 a week now. |
