I'm homesick and I want to go home. Not the best reason I know, but it's enough for me. The thing is while I can pack up and be gone within a month- I have signed a housing contract until September. (As in they have my key money)

Having gone through the hassle of moving last year I know how expensive and annoying it can be to find a replacement, so i'd just stick it out until September and go then. However- when I asked my director what happens when my contract expires, she said it just rolls over until I cancel. I figure this means that in order to cancel my housing contract at the end of September I will need to let my boss know that I'm quitting. As my contract ends on the 20th and my payday is the 24th it all seems like a lot of hassle but I don't think I'll last until April.

So my question is, how to you get your key money back and any advice for quitting before your contract ends?

Does a contract not mean anything to you people?

It definitely means something, but every contract I signed in Korea had stipulations regarding cancellation. If it says you need to give thirty days notice, then give thirty days notice, but it's not as if you're breaking the contract by doing so.

How much is the Key money? Stop paying rent and just let them deduct it at the end. Look into doing it that way.

It's difficult and the person who wants to work outside their country needs to decide first if they can cope with not seeing their family for a year. A year isn't that long anyway and with skype and mobile phone apps you can easily feel connected with your family even though they are miles away.

If you are homesick, find some good expats and make friends that will help you cope with homesickness. The homesickness usually comes in 3 month intervals. The first 3 months, 6 months and 9 months. It's so easy just to say screw it and leave the country thinking that you'll never be back. However, would you do that in your country? That's never a good idea and it's called burning bridges. It's not good for references, networking, and finding another job in the future.

Nope, I wouldn't know anything about separation from friends and family. Rolling Eyes
I'd say it's time for the OP to take a vacation. Even if a simple weekend trip is all they can manage, it can do wonders to clear the mind.
